Work Record- Personal Shoot 2

Plans for this shoot

For this shoot, I plan to do a location shoot outside and shoot on the topic of trees. This may include a range of different shot types including landscape shots and close up shots of the trees focusing on the texture of the bark. I may also try to shoot the autumnal leaves as the colours of orange and brown should work well together to show the season of autumn, I will do this on college grounds and focus around the same trees. However, I think that the problem of composition may become apparent if I cannot photograph a particular tree because of the background behind it as this is hard for me to control.

What I hope to achieve

I hope to achieve around 50 shots of leaves and tree bark textures, which I am hoping to gain around four or 5 straight prints from to use in my practical folder. After looking through inspiration online beforehand, I saw that contrasting colours between leaves and the greenery behind worked well so this is what I hope to concentrate on in part of my shoots.

What I actually achieved

I achieved in the main what I wanted to from this shoot as I was able to take advantage of the autumn colours in the trees and leaves that I found on my location shoot. I managed to take around 70 shots in total, which I am happy with as I feel this gives me a large enough selection to choose from. The photos that I shot required little editing as they already were effective enough in showing what I wanted. I was disappointed with some of the shots that I did get from this shoot, as the compositions I found made them unsuccessful and I was unable to use these.

I like how the leaves in this photo fill the frame as it makes the photo more effective in my opinion compared with if there were just a couple of leaves in the photo. I also like the contrasting reds and greens in this picture as I think this is what makes the picture look autumnal. I think this photo would have worked even better if I had thought about the composition more carefully as some of the green background interrupts the leaves.

I like the idea behind this photo as I wanted the leaves to contrast with the blue sky in the background, however I feel that the sky was not as bright as it could have been therefore the contrast between the leaves was not as significant. I still like this photo, however next time if it was a more sunny day it could have worked better. I was concentrating my shoot around trees, and showing the season of autumn therefore I think that this photo is successful in doing this.

What I plan to do next

In next weeks shoot, I plan to shoot in the studio and I plan to shoot macro lens shots of flowers. I also plan to show the contrast between dead and new using the petals. I am not entirely sure what else I am going to use in order to achieve successful shots, however I think it would benefit me to have contrasting colours of petals. Also by using a background such as white (depending on what colour the flowers are) so that it stands out.
