Work Diary- Depth Of Field

Evaluation

I am happy with this shoot overall, however I feel that the studio section of this technique worked better than the location shoot. I think this is because I had higher control over the lighting in the studio and I was able to consider different compositions in the studio which was harder to figure out in location. Although I had a short amount of time to experiment with a shallow depth of field in the studio, I think that it helped me a lot as I now know the importance of figuring out as it determines the outcome of your photo. I think this technique will also help me in my personal project as it will allow me to control the depth of field more easily which I think can either make a photo successful or not.

This is my favourite photo from the depth of field shoot. I think I achieved what I wanted to from the photo, which was to show a shallow depth of field by having one subject in focus in the foreground and the background out of focus. I also like how the subject in the front is over to the left, and although is still what your eyes are focused on works well with the background. I like the position of the subject in the background, as I think the hand gestures have worked well in executing this photo.

I found it difficult to create a deep depth of field on the location shoot as I did not have a large amount of control. Because of this, I do not think that this photo is entirely successful. Although it is attempting to show a deep depth of field, I think that if I had taken it from a different angle or photographed an object rather than photographing people. I also think that the model on the right facing away from the camera also spoils it.
