For this technique you need to:
- Shoot two types of pictures, one of a pattern for example this works best when a pattern is repeated several times in a single frame. You will also need to shoot a portrait shot in order to use this underneath your patterned picture.
- Once you have placed one image on top of another you will most likely need to reduce the opacity (depending on the effect you want).
- Then, rub out the second layer so that the part you want to be ordinary is rubbed out and leave the patterned part as it is. (You will need to use a soft-edge brush in order to reduce the harsh lines.
- You will then flatten the layers, and carry on editing the picture like you normally would e.g. levels and curves.
