Image Bank- Blurring

These pictures are of blurring which is a technique in order to blur parts of the photo (usually natural movements) that are accentuated in order to create a dramatic effect within a photo. This can be created by adjusting the camera's shutter speed, or by using an editing software such as Photoshop and applying a Gaussian type blur to the object that is moving. Most of these photos are brightly coloured pictures, and contain different compositions and the blur that has been applied has been used in a different way in each.

I like the top photo for a number of reasons. Firstly, I think the blurring effect works well on the bus that is already moving and I think it makes it more dramatic and attracts attention to that part of the photo. The picture most likely shows a street in London with a double decker bus that has been shot at night time, and the noticeably iconic red telephone box is also positioned on the right to put the bus into its true context and show the viewer where it has been taken. The lighting in this photo is most likely from street light, and little enhancements have been taken place on editing software. I also like the colours in this photo, as there is a contrast between the reds of the bus and the shadows created by the darkness on the street that sets the scene.

I also like the fifth picture, of the black car that is travelling down the road. I think the black and green tones in this photo complement each other, and although the composition is simply central, I think this is the most effective in capturing the movement of the photo and the speed in which the car may be travelling. This photo also creates a large depth of field as you can see a fair distance down the middle of the photo, and the leading lines create a perspective for the audience. I think that the blurring in this photo has been used well, as the greenery at the edge is the main part of the blurring and having the car in focus creates a focal point to the image and your eyes are drawn to that particular point.
